Norwich Architecture Summer Design Academy

Norwich University's Summer Design Academy 2021 will be a 1-week immersive online course, teaching students the essentials of design thinking and architectural composition. Over the week, students will design a small building, utilizing 3D computer modeling programs to communicate how it would be experienced and how it could be built. Hand sketching will be paired with digital design and a Norwich 'Sketchbox' will be mailed to each student.

Each day students will explore their project through the application of a different modeling technique and architectural concept. Morning sessions will be devoted to learning the virtual modeling tools, beginning with technical demonstrations by instructors, followed by labs in small studio teams. Afternoon sessions will begin with lectures by NU professors, followed by individual project work, 1-on-1 desk critiques with instructors and ending with daily 'pin-up' presentations to the class. At the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of work they will display and present at a public virtual exhibit attended by parents, professors and local architects.

Students will gain a broader view of the field, develop skills and portfolio materials and be advised on the college application and portfolio-building processes.

The A+A Summer Design Academy is open to students who will be high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in the Fall of 2021. The cost per student for this week-long program is $350, which includes materials sent to your home. 

Scholarship: Students that complete the A+A Summer Design Academy may be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship that will apply toward the cost of Norwich University tuition.

Schedule:
Sunday, July 11, 2021: Orientation, 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. EST (with parents)
Monday - Friday, July 12-16, 2021: Daily Activities 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. EST
Saturday, July 17, 2021: Culminating Event and Presentation (with parents) 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. EST

Applications will continue to be accepted on a space available basis. To ensure high quality interaction with the Academy faculty, we have limited the number of students we can accept. Students accepted into the program will be informed and can secure their spot by paying the enrollment fee.
